MAGICARD RIO/TANGO 1 & 2 PRINTER DRIVER ======================================= HISTORY OF CHANGES ================== _____________________________________________________________ Version 6.02 Date Released - 15th Nov 2007 - DCR 29967 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Resolved following API related issue: If spooling is disabled then FeedCard() returns success but actually has no effect and WaitForPrinter() always returns 30 seconds later with an error code of MAGICARD_TIMEOUT. This causes the application to wait forever for the printer to feed a card to a contact/contactless smart chip encoder without ever actually causing any card movement. _____________________________________________________________ Version 6.01 Date Released - 26th July 2007 - DCR 29769 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Corrected Windows 98 installation problem. __________________________________________________________ _ Version 6.00 Date Released - 17th July 2007 - DCR 29761 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Added Windows Vista Compatibility ______________________________________________________________ Version 5.01 Date Released - 11th October 2005 - DCR 28834 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Added new RT2 command if printer model set to Rio or Tango 2. The firmware can now decide whether to bit/byte juggle the image data. 2. Fixed the SecureShield bug. 3. Improved backwards compatibilty with earlier Rio & Tango printers (with SIN 1732 firmware). ______________________________________________________________ Version 5.00 Date Released - 9th February 2005 - DCR 28497 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Added support for the Rio Tango 2 printers whilst maintaining support for Rio Tango 1. ______________________________________________________________ Version 4.20 Date Released - 11th October 2004 - DCR 28281 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Introduced new Gamma 3 colour curve to accommodate different dye film types and changed the default curve to Gamma3. ______________________________________________________________ Version 4.10 Date Released - 1st July 2004 - DCR 28134 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Ensured that the Magicard USB printer driver is not installed until the Microsoft USB Printing Support driver has been installed for the device. This disables the possibility of a failed installation. 2. More robust installation/de-installation program incorporated. 3. Ensured that on installation the Rio/Tango Driver is added to the Control Panel->Add/Remove Software list. 4. With respect to the Control Panel->Add/Remove Software, when removing the driver this way, the program will now allow a more comprehensive removal of files and registry entries. _______________________________________________________________ Version 4.00 Date Released - 27th May 2004 - DCR 28110 ------------------------------------------------------ 1. API Additions. An application programming interface has been added. The purpose of this application programming interface (API) is to allow applications to synchronize their operations with the operation of the printer. For example, an application may need to know when the printer has finished printing on a card. Until now, it was not possible to retrieve such information in an accurate manner due to the way the Windows print spooler works. With this API, an application is finally able to wait until the printer has finished its work. Special functions are also available to place cards in the correct position for contact and contactless chip encoding and to eject cards from the printer. NOTE: Some Rio/Tango firmware errors were highlighted during this development which have been corrected in the firmware (SIN1878) version 2.00. So this version should be installed or later to implement the API functions. 2. A problem was resolved whereby on installation, multiple NUSB ports were created. This was due to a conflict with other non-Magicard drivers installed on the system. 3. Resolved issue which prevented deinstallation of the driver if the Magicard Alto/Opera driver was installed on the system. ________________________________________________________ Version 3.10 Date Released - 2nd March 2004 ------------------------------------------ 1. Modifications made to the Status Monitor which prevents spool errors occurring during batch printing. _______________________________________________________________ Version 3.0 Date Released - 23rd July 2003 ------------------------------------------ 1. Added ability to interface with the Magicard Driver Wizard. The Driver Wizard is a utility which assists the installer in setting up the Driver options. 2. The Magicard Rio/Tango printers will soon be fitted with a new processor controller board which will be denoted by the suffix NP after the printer's serial number. The firmware for the new processor board will therefore be different, so the the Magicard Support Tools have been modified to help prevent the printer from being upgraded with the incorrect firmware. It does this by only displaying the correct firmware file extensions as explained below:- Processor Board Software ID Number (SIN) File Extension --------------- ------------------------ -------------- Original SIN 1732 .BIN New Board SIN 1878 .CFB 3. Added a message when installing on Windows XP explaining why the driver has not been certified by Microsoft. 4. Corrected the problem when driver is installed on Windows 2000 and the Parallel cable is used then the Status Monitor reflects the wrong status. 5. Corrected the problem whereby the Status monitor sometimes declared that 'The operation returned because the timeout period expired' when printing colour both sides. 6. Improvement on the previous fix where a single side card is printed with 'Print Both Sides' selected. 7. Added a 'Get Help' option in Printer Preferences for Win NT/2000/XP driver. 8. Corrected the Magnetic Stripe Overcoat Hole dimension where it stopped short of one edge. _______________________________________________________________ Version 2.3 Date Released - 28th April 2003 --------------------------------------------- 1. A single sided image can now be sent to the printer with "Print on both sides" selected. 2. Status monitor bug fixed whereby ETX was omitted from the end of some commands causing the printer to "hang". _______________________________________________________________ Version 2.2 Date Released - 17th February 2003 --------------------------------------------- 1. If the model selected was 'Tango with Magnetic Encoding', the 'Print Both Sides' was selected and a single side only is sent, then no data would actually be sent to the printer. This has now been resolved. NOTE: For garaunteed operation in this situation use the printer firmware version 5.30 or later. 2. The factory set 'Printhead Position' adjustment accessible via Magicard Support Tools Configuration page is now operational from the Printer Driver. 3. The Ability to add new gamma curves via the MCARDN5.CFG file is now included. 4. Resolved the problem whereby if the Status Monitor is closed or hidden then it could not be retreived. If the Status Monitor is hidden then it may be opened again via the Printer Controls page. 5. Previous to this issue the Ultra Secure Tile Rotate was defaulted incorrectly to ON. Now corrected. 6. Modified the Overcoat to be automatically enabled if the colour format of the back side included colour, otherwise , if black resin only is required then the overcoat will be defaulted off. 7. On previous versions, when 'Updating Driver File' was selected on Windows XP, the Setup would declare that Windows was Restarting and would automatically re-run the Setup program. However, on XP this auto re-run would not occur. This version resolves this issue. _______________________________________________________________ Version 2.1 Date Released - 16th October 2002 --------------------------------------------- 1. Introduced another colour gamma correction curve, named Gamma 2. This new gamma curve improves the colour matching between the monitor display and the printed colours. It also improves grey shades. Please note that on installation the original Default gamma correction (Gamma 1) is still the default, Gamma 2 needs to be selected by the user. 2. Corrected a problem experienced with certain application(s), whereby different page orientation between the front (portrait) and back (landscaoe) page when double-sided printing on a Tango prevented the magnetic encoding data from being included in the transmitted file. _______________________________________________________________ Version 2.0 Date Released - 27th March 2002 --------------------------------------------- 1. Introduced ColorSure option. This option enables the Magicard Rio and Tango to print the YMC and K black panels at a reduced speed. This facility reduces the chance of dye film wrinkling when printing certain images with heavy blocks of colour. 2. The Holopatch default position has been changed to six. 3. The magnetic encoding setup defaults have been changed to User Specify. 4. The previous 'Restore Defaults' button in the magnetic encoding settings are renamed 'Set ISO Settings'. 5. When certain error messages appear, there will be an option for certain error conditions to Cancel the print job. 6. A problem with the Windows 2000 driver whereby when printing with a portrait badge, if both orientations are set to portrait, the back side mistakenly prints as a landscape. This has now been resolved. 7. The Overcoat Tile Rotate option will now be enabled if the HoloPatch, UltraSecure OR the UltraShield is enabled. 8. There is now a Number of Copies option for those applications which do not provide this facility. 9. The NT4 driver had a problem with recording any changes to the properties settings after installation. Now resolved. 10.Some application specific corrections have been made. _______________________________________________________________ Version 1.9 Date Released - 17th October 2001 --------------------------------------------- 1. The Status Monitor is partly re-introduced in this version. This time the Monitor will simply display error messages on screen and will not be present during normal operation. 2. The Magicard Support Tools have had a number of modifications to prevent occasional communication failures. 3. In the Support Tools 'Configuration' page the 'Default' button will now automatically refresh the parameters displayed. _______________________________________________________________ Version 1.8 Date Released - 9th August 2001 --------------------------------------------- 1. Due to a variety of communication issues the Status Monitor has was deleted on this version. _______________________________________________________________ Version 1.6 Date Released - 18th June 2001 ------------------------------------------ 1. Earlier versions of the setup installation did not 'clean' completely any previously installed Rio driver. All issues regarding difficulty in installation has now been resolved in this version. 2. On Certain applications when printing YMC colour text on a solid colour background, the text appears to be placed in a white solid filled text box, instead of a transparent text box. This is cured in this version. _______________________________________________________________ Version 1.5 Date Released - 23rd May 2001 --------------------------------------------- 1. When installation was complete, the user was instructed to remove disks before hitting ‘Finish’, but if you removed the CD the PC said it was still in use. Now fixed. 2. A 10-second delay was introduced before declaring 'Upgrade Successful' when upgrading the firmware to prevent customers from switching off the printer before completion. 3. If you configured the printer on installation, these settings would not be saved so the user would have had to reconfigure again in 'Printers'. This is now fixed. 4. The Magicard Support Tools will be automatically installed with the Driver installation. 5. The USB option is disabled when installing the driver on Windows 95 and NT4. 6. Just a point to note. There appears to be some confusion as to what happens when the options 'Keep existing driver files' and 'Overwrite old driver files' are chosen. 'Keep existing driver files' should add another Printer without updating the driver, whereas 'Overwrite old driver files' should update the driver without adding another printer. ________________________________________________________________ Version 1.0 Date Released - Feb 2001 --------------------------------------------- 1.
